Questions on eye problems with cats?
My cat had feline herpes before we got him in October last year.It has left him with no sight in one eye. It is very opaque and his third eye lid is partially showing. He was fine until he went to be neutered in January. During the op the vet called and asked if he could operate on his bad eye. I said yes, since then he has been permanently on a steroid eye cream. A few weeks ago he got a eye infection and now he's on an antibiotic eye cream. The vet said if he kept getting infections it might be better to remove his third eye lid, he also wants to scrape his eye ball.
As I was leaving the last time he spoke to the receptionist and she made me an appointment to take him back and have this operation done. I was a bit shocked as I thought we were talking about doing this at a later date
I know a lot of people will tell me to talk to my vet, but my vet is German and he's an animal eye specialist so all he want to do is operate on my cat eye.
I would like to try L-Lysine but I need to know what dose to try. if any one can help I would be most grateful.
I would just like to add that although he has no sight in one eye he leads a full and normal life and has taken to catching and eating wasps in mid flight.

The best non-surgical solution to helping are terramycin and L-Lysine. Tarramycin comes in a tube and needs to be administered directly into the eye twice a day. L-Lysine is found in the human supplements department. It's a vitamin that helps bodies fight herpes. I take one ipll and crush it into a fine powder. I sprinkle one on each bowl of dry food every time it's filled (there's not too much danger in over dose since it's a mild supplement, similar to too much vitamin C for us). Also, if you give wet food, it mixes in easily. We saw big changes in her symptoms when both the terramycin and L-Lysine were given consistently.
